Vidulgi OoyoO are a post rock/shoegaze band from Seoul,South Korea. The band has already released their debut album and have played in the US and China. I recently got a chance to ask them some questions about themselves and what’s to come from the guys. Check out what they had to say below.
Give us an introduction,state your name and role in the band.
Hi, I am Jongseok Lee on guitar and vocal, the leader of the band as well.
How would you like to describe your sound?
I think it is something like a process of sex unfolded by textures of our own sound..
What does “Vidulgi Ooyoo” mean? How did you come up with the name?
Sorry, but not “Vidulgi Ooyoo“,“Vidulgi OoyoO“is right. It translates into “pigeon`s milk“which mama pigeon feeds her baby.I had ever known that truth on TV and I thought that was a very psychedelic material. I like this name.
In 2010 you released a split with Chicago’s Bliss City, do you think you have gained international fans and attention after the release ?
Actually Bliss City East had introduced and advertised songs of our 1st album “AERO“to their Chicago fans even before releasing a split album. I heard there were good reactions from them and they hoped to see our shows. But, because B.C.E didn`t make it to release a split in U.S for some problems, we don`t know what has been going on. But we are always appreciating to B.C.E and their concerns for V.O. Instead, we have gained many foreigner fans in Korea steadily.
You have also palyed numerous shows in the US, how would you compare the shows or fans from the ones in your hometown.
We have played a lot of gigs which foreigners hold in Korea. So we are used to their way of enjoying a live show. They always move, dance and shout for joy standing in front of the stage even for our kind of music. That was same as well in U.S. But, Korean fans are very calm and serious for our music. Anyway, whatever, we are appreciating to every fan who are inerested in our music.
What are you currently working on? Can fans expect new songs or album this year?
We have worked new songs for next album these days and are definitely supposed to release it this year. You can expect something.
Thank you for your time, what does 2012 holds for Vidulgi Ooyoo?
Nothing exact in 2012 yet. We have already toured in Tokyo, Japan in this March and expect a couple of tours in other countries again, but not definite. We will try to continue to make some overseas tours and let more countries people enjoy V.O. Thank you for doing an interview.
